Bishops Waltham Parish Fishing Club

AGM and Trophy presentations held on April 28th, new membership year starts on 16th June, memberships fees kept the same for another year

Trophies presented at the AGM and Memberships renewed

Following the success last year of having a membership renewal session before the AGM, we did the same this year before the AGM so that members were able to renew for the new season. The membership year starts again on 16th June. Forms have been sent out and can also be downloaded from our website. The existing committee were re-elected and Andy Weavil joined the committee. Cups and Trophies were presented after the AGM business by Club Chairman, Roland Palmer. Andy Weavil and Rod Langthorne won many of the Trophies.

Subscription kept the same for 5 years, EA licence free for Juniors

The club subscription for the 2017-18 season is being kept the same again. This is the fifth year in a row with no increases. Good news for Juniors is that although they need an EA (Environment Agency) licence to fish, up to and including age 16 years the licence is now free of charge. For adults the licence is now for a year from the date purchased, rather than from 1 April to 31 March.

Vandalism to the fence

The fencing around the club compound has been vandalized for the third time in a year. Although repaired after earlier incidents this time it needed to be replaced. Fortunately the Club was awarded a grant from the Parish Council which enabled a stronger fence to be erected.

Fishing recovered well after 2016 fish-kill

Although a lot of fish were lost during the 2016 fish-kill the water has recovered well and there are plenty of fish to catch. The fish-kill was caused by the weed in the pond dying when the water temperature rose. The Carp were not affected and we have found in the past that an incident like this often leads to larger fish being caught. The surviving fish have less competition for food and are able to grow bigger.

EA carrying out a survey

The EA (Environment Agency) will be carrying out a survey on the South Pond this year. It will include assessment of the type and numbers of fish in the pond, the water quality and the plants and animals living in and around the pond.

2017-18 Match calendar available for download

The new match calendar is available to download from the website. Two new matches have been introduced this year. To encourage more juniors to fish we have a new match for juniors plus supervising adult. We are also introducing a new "mid-summer" daytime match (for those who prefer to get up later).

June and July activities

There is one competition during June - the new "mid-summer" match and the water is otherwise available for general pleasure fishing. The new membership year starts on June 16th. July has four matches, three of the Evening Match series plus the newly introduced Junior/Adult match. The idea of this new match is to encourage more Juniors to fish by having a joint junior and supervising adult pair. The junior competitor fishes but the adult can provide guidance on tackle and method of fishing.
