Bishops Waltham Parish Fishing Club
The Gateway club enjoyed an evenings fish-in
Gateway Club members came along to the South Pond for an evenings fish-in at the beginning of June. It was a lovely evening after a hot day. Each member took it in turns to try their hand at fishing. Roland Palmer, Steve Edge, Paul Collins and Rod Langthorne from the Fishing Club showed everyone how to catch fish. After a slow start the fish started to bite and many fish were caught. There were a few good size fish amongst the catch including a Carp, Bream and a Roach-Bream hybrid. There was also a bit of competition between members to see who could catch the most fish. After a couple of hours concentration on the fishing everyone had a good time and are looking forward to the next fish-in.
Carp are still escaping from the South Pond
Many Carp were seen in the North Pond near the sluice during May and early June. Initially it was thought they were trying to get back. Unfortunately the opposite was true and fish have been seen still migrating over the sluice into the North Pond. This means that there are likely to be a lot of fish deaths again this year when the water goes as it is very difficult to carry out an effective rescue. Hopefully this should be the last time fish get stranded if everything works out as planned for the North Pond Conservation Group's All Year Water project.
July and August activities
There will be four junior matches during July, each on a Friday evening on 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th July. The draw for each match will be at 5:30pm, fishing 6:00-8:00pm. A barbecue will follow the match on 29th July. Prizes will be awarded on the night. Other July competitions are the continuation of the Evening Matches which are on Saturday evenings on 2nd, 16th and 30th July. The first two will be a draw at 5:00pm, fishing 5:30pm-8:30pm. The match on 30th will be half an hour earlier, draw at 4:30pm, fishing 5:00-8:00pm. There are two matches in August, the Carp Only match where only Carp can be weighed in and the Martin Eustace match, in memory of a previous Chairman.
The new version of the Match Calendar for the 2016-2017 season can be downloaded from the web site.

It is rare for anglers not to catch fish at the pond, which makes it ideal both for more experienced anglers and for youngsters starting out. As a mixed fishery, with fish like carp, roach, rudd, bream, perch and the odd eel - there is something for everyone. There are carp to 10lb plus, many between 6lb and 8lb, lots of roach, bream and also perch over 1lb. If you love your fishing and don’t want to travel far then join us - your local club. Its always nice to see new anglers on the bank and hopefully we will also see you at the matches.
