New dates set for cancelled matches, Club involved in set up of North Pond Conservation Group
Cold wind didn't hamper the catches
The match at the end of January was fished in a particularly cold wind. Well it seemed so for Paul Collins, our Assistant Match Secretary. He drew peg 18 on the Station Road side and had the wind in his face. The remaining anglers drew the sunnier side. Paul knew it was warmer on the other side when he saw a few fleeces being removed during the match!
The match was won on the day by Nick Richardson with 7lb 11oz of small fish. Second was club chairman Roland Palmer with 5lb 2oz and third was Rod Langthorne with 3lb 8oz. Maggot seemed to be the bait to have, with either a waggler or pole approach. Paul gave the feeder a go but didn't have a bite. At least the weather was dry and fish did show, even if they were small.

After the match, all anglers present discussed arranging a further two matches, because of the ones cancelled in December. The dates agreed, including the two additional matches, were Sunday 13th February 2011 (Match 6), Sunday 27th February 2011 (Match 7), Sunday 6th March 2011 (Points Only) and the final match on Sunday 13th March (Match 8).
The Points Only match has changed to a week earlier. All of the changed dates are on the Club's web site at www.bwpfc.org.uk
Debris, fallen tree and litter cleared
The outflow has been cleared of debris and the water level dropped as a result. The large tree limb that fell in the outflow has been cut up and logged. The logs were put to good use, Paul dried them out for burning on a wood stove. Two bags of rubbish have been collected, mostly cans and vodka bottles from the late night drinkers who gather in Station Road.
Club involved in creation of North Pond Conservation Group
The club was active last year in the North Pond Working Group and is now taking an active role on the committee of the newly formed North Pond Conservation Group (BWNPCG). The Conservation Group has been inaugurated as a formalised organisation which represents all parties with an interest in the North Pond. The club will be continuing its active role, in particular in trying to get a lagoon created near the Winchester Road and in the organisation of the Pond Event planned to take place in June.

March & April activities
As weather conditions in December were severe, there are now two matches in March. These are the Points Only match on March 6th and Match 8 of the Match Series on 13th March. Fish can be hard to catch at this time of year and the Points Only match uses a different method for calculating results, with one point for each fish caught, irrespective of size.
For the first time there will be no Close Season on the pond this Spring. All competitions will end on 13th March and next season's competitions will not start until June, but individuals will be able to fish between March and June.
Paul has been doing a sterling job on pond maintenance and bailiffing. There will be work parties between April and June when more hands are needed. The pond will be closed when work parties are taking place.
