Match series postponed due to frozen pond, Paul Collins currently leading the results

Match cancelled due to bad weather

Match 5 of the Match Series had to be cancelled at the end of November due to the bad weather. Assistant Match Secretary, Paul Collins, broke the ice on pegs one to nine on Friday in preparation for the match. He did the same again on Saturday during the day, but by Saturday night it had frozen again, so Sunday's match had to be cancelled. Depending on the weather, it may be possible to fit the match into the schedule in the New Year.

Match 4, on November 14th, was more successful. Six anglers fished and it was won by Paul Collins fishing on peg 16. Rod Pilling was a close second, fishing on Peg 2, followed by Nick Richardson in third place fishing peg 9.

January & February activities

The "hangover" match, on 2nd January, is a fun match. It provides an opportunity to get some fresh air and fishing and recover from the excesses of Christmas and the New Year festivities. It is a later start at 9:30am for the draw and fishing from 10:00 to 13:00. After the match everyone adjourns to the pub to warm up and discuss the "one that got away". Of course, if the weather conditions continue as they have done in December, it could be straight to the pub!!

As weather conditions in January can be severe, there is only one match scheduled. This is match 7 in the match series on 17th January, with the draw at 9am and fishing from 9:30 to 13:30. If the weather is not too severe it may be possible to fit in the cancelled match(es). The last two matches of the current season are in February. These are the final Match Series match on 7th February and the Points Only match on 21st February. Both matches are from 9:00 to 13:30. Fish can be hard to catch at this time of year and the Points Only match uses a different method for calculating results, with one point for each fish caught, irrespective of size.
