Lots of Prizes won in the Junior Matches

A series of four junior matches were run during the school summer holidays followed by a Junior Prize Match in late August. Some good weights of fish were recorded by our young club members and they won many good prizes. The total weight of fish caught in the Junior Prize match was 64lb 15oz, a weight which our senior members might find hard to beat.

Good weights in the Evening Match series

The weather was generally kind for the evening matches run during the summer evenings. Only the second match, on the 11th July, turned out to be very wet. However for the hardy anglers who fished the match this proved to be the best match of the series for weight of fish weighed in. The overall winner was our Assistant Match Secretary, Paul Collins.

Good weights recorded in other matches

The total weight in the Carp Only match was 74lb 12oz. This was won by Liam Crosswell with 26lb 10oz. Last year Liam was the leading junior in matches and this is Liam's first year fishing in the senior matches, He beat our Chairman, Roland Palmer, into second place. Roland weighed in 20lb 2oz.

There was a good weigh-in for the Silver Fish match, where only roach, rudd, bream and similar silver fish can be counted. The overall weight was 40lb 2oz. First place went to Paul Collins with 13lb 9oz, second was Roland Palmer with 11lb 9oz and third was Tom Turner with 6lb 15oz.

In the Match series, Paul Collins is currently in the lead with Roland Palmer in second place for the parish members. Chris Shepherd is leading the Associate members in the match series.

November & December activities

November has three matches in the Match Series, all from 8:30 to 13:00, fished on 1st, 15th and 29th November. December sees a slow down in match activity as the cold weather sets in which can adversely affect the fishing. There is one match series match on 13th December also from 8:30 to 13:00. The hangover match is a fun match which, as its name suggests, is an opportunity to get some fresh air and fishing and recover from the excesses of Christmas. It is a later start at 9:30am for the draw and fishing from 10:00 to 13:00. After the match everyone adjourns to the pub to warm up and discuss the "one that got away".
