Weed is a major problem.

We are unable to keep on
top of the rampant
weed spread.

Ledger/feeder fishing is a lottery. Heavier tackle is not the solution. All baits are hidden by the extensive weed banks so fish find them by chance.
  • We suggest members use a weed rake on a rope, to clear as much weed in front and to the sides of your swim as possible, and then fish short
  • Rake out the weed prior to setting up and fishing. Rake up to 3 rod lengths out
  • Raked weed to be removed from the water and deposited in the bushes away from the swim. Do not leave weed in the swim
  • By disturbing the bed you will draw in fish looking for natural food. Disturbance will settle by the time you set up and are ready to fish
  • You can feed and cast to the cleared zone with a short feeder/ledger rod or float fish....and catch fish
  • eBay has Gardner Tackle multi-rakes listed (c. £20)
  • You may want to create your own weed rake using 2 garden rakes? Martin Bowler did a YouTube video. Weed rake construction
